Psalm 19:1–2 (NIV)

Before David became a king, he was a shepherd.

Before he led worship before thousands, he worshiped alone.

Imagine him sitting on a hillside with his sheep. The sun slowly disappears behind the mountains. The stars begin to fill the sky. A harp rests in his hands as he sings songs to the Lord. The wind blows through the grass. Birds settle into the trees. The heavens stretch farther than he can imagine.

It wasn't a church building.

It wasn't a stage.

It wasn't a performance.

It was simply David, God's creation, and the Creator.

Many of the Psalms were likely born from moments like these. When David wrote, "The heavens declare the glory of God," he wasn't speaking theoretically. He was describing what he saw every day.

Somewhere along the way, many of us began to associate worship almost exclusively with a church building. Yet the Church has never been a building. The Church is God's people. Buildings are wonderful places where believers gather, but they were never meant to limit where God's people worship.

God reminds us:

"Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool."
— Isaiah 66:1

Stephen echoed the same truth:

"The Most High does not live in houses made by human hands."
— Acts 7:48

God isn't confined to walls. He meets His people wherever they seek Him with sincere hearts.

Jesus understood this well. He regularly withdrew to mountains to pray. He taught beside lakes. He walked through fields. He pointed to birds, flowers, vineyards, trees, and storms to reveal the Kingdom of God. Creation became one of His greatest teaching tools because it reflects the wisdom, beauty, and power of its Maker.

At WIN—Worship in Nature, we're simply inviting the Church to rediscover one of God's oldest sanctuaries: His creation.

Take your Bible to a park.

Bring your guitar to a campsite.

Watch the sunrise with your family.

Walk a trail while praying.

Sit beside a river and read the Psalms.

Listen to the birds instead of your notifications.

As you slow down, you'll begin to notice what David noticed long ago—that creation constantly points us back to its Creator.

The goal isn't to worship nature.

The goal is to worship the God who made nature.

As creation fills your eyes with wonder, may your heart be filled with worship.

1. When was the last time you intentionally worshiped God outside? 2. What part of God's creation most reminds you of His greatness? 3. How can you use time in nature to grow closer to Christ this week? 4. Are there distractions keeping you from noticing God's handiwork around you? 5. How could your family make worship in nature a regular rhythm?
